Learning All About Delusion

Hello Everybody,

This past week has been absolutely crazy! I thought that I was going to have all kinds of time to do things while I was up here. Learn to play the guitar a little better, read some books I've been interested in, do some personal computer projects on the side, maybe learn another language, you know, fill up all that spare time I have since I'm up in the middle of nowhere.

Apparently while doing this planning I forgot to inform myself that I have 2 jobs. One requires extensive planning since I've never done anything like it before, and the other one is taking me longer than usual because my internet is about 1 billionth the speed of the T1 connection I so enjoyed in Toronto. In any case, there hasn't been a whole lot going on except for work, which is a shame because the weather is still pretty nice and I'm sure it won't take long to change.

Well, actually, there has been a little more than work. Colleen and I have started to get into baking. We're quite fond of making soft pretzels with either garlic and cheese, or brown sugar and cinnamon on top. We couldn't bear to pay the prices for junk food up here so we decided to just make our own. Colleen has also been busy making muffins and cakes. I've never seen her so domesticated before, but it's been a delicious experience for us both. The house continuously smells of baked goodies, which makes me nostalgic for the days of Dryden where mom always has something in the oven.

On another positive note, we've finally got the house to a state where we're happy with it. I was going to take some pictures today, but the batteries in the camera are dead and we have yet to charge them. I promise I'll get some pictures of the house to you before the week is done.

Till then, take it easy.

Your statement "I've never seen her so domesticated before" sounds pretty weird. :-P All I know is that, if interpreted the wrong way, Markus may end up personally conducting a study of the quality of insulation in Inukjuakian doghouses :-P.

Just kidding, of course. I'm surprised you're using your precious cheese supply...at this rate of using, how long do you think it will last? I guess you can order up cheese from the South, though.

Hey Markus and Colleen,

thanks for the stories, you keep me laughing. I remember bringing my sister to school once, but only to knitting or sewing class and the teacher had allowed it. Do you remember, Christine? (Just in case she is reading this). Anyway, a few supplies are on the way. Just let me know if they arrive, or if they disappear somewhere during delivery. I sent it last week, just don't remember which day.

Anyway, I got what I wanted, it cooled off around here. We had a couple of times frost at night. However it's still in the midtwenties during the day. I don't even remember anymore what rain looks like. Wabigoon lake is the lowest ever. There is some rain in the forecast next week -
finally. We still didn't do the wood, that's next on the to-do list.
That's just about all for the update from the other great white north. Reading the comments, I realize how fortunate we are here. We have a weekly newspaper and most of us have running water. Right now it's a question of time for how long if it doesn't rain. Some of the wells are starting to dry out. We don't have a thing to complain about.

Hope you guys have a good week ahead. Talk to you soon

Love

Mom

Sooo, Vik, know any insulation that might withstand...say... minus 30 plus wind chill? Never mind, Colleen's glare will probably warm things up sufficiently, not to mention the excellent snowsuits that we received recently (Thanks Mom!).

Actually, Colleen was fine with the comment. We let the other person read over the post for grammar mistakes and such before posting. We are teachers now, after all. It's just too bad that we both suck at grammar. And don't worry about the cheese. There's more than enough to get us through till Christmas.
